Alony wins an Award of Merit in "The 2ND Annual Prism Awards for International Stone Design" announced at Coverings 2001 in New Orleans, June 2001

Prism's $1500 Awards of Merit went to an outdoor fountain feature for a renovation in expectation of Pope John Paul II's visit to a Greek Orthodox Church, in the Old City of Jerusalem, in the Commercial category.
In preparation for the Pope's visit to the Holy Land in the summer of 2000, it was decided to restore the Assembly Hall of the Greek Orthodox Church within the grounds of the Patriarchy in the Old City of Jerusalem. The requirements of the design were dictated by the architect, Theo Metropolos, and demanded great precision in both the production and assembly of the project. Ami Poran, of Alony Marble Ltd., of Haifa, Israel, was chosen to execute the work for which the architect dictated the types and source of the marble to be used. Most of the stone originated in Greece and was similar to that used in The Church of the Holy Sepulcher. The work encompassed approximately 7,000 square feet of floors, pillars, daises, wall cladding, stairs and banisters. About twenty marble ''carpets'' were incorporated into the floor design, and after assembly, the entire surface was polished. The production of the stairways and banisters required great accuracy in measurements. Planning, production and assembly were all carried out by Alony's experts. The Turukaya Banister incorporated works by Palestinian stonemasons who plied their craft according to the architect's guidelines under Alony's supervision.
